We’re about the niches or the super mass market (CoD, MCU, etc). That will never happen again since mass media is no longer a thing. Gen Z’s apparent obsession with the pop culture and aesthetics of the early 2000s makes the Y2K moment (especially its misogyny and toxic celebrity culture) seem better than it actually was. He was beloved all over the world across many demographics. Michael Jackson is a great example of this. But the current generation of young men may like a variety of things, from Roblox to Minecraft to Pokémon and so on. Unlike the 80s and even 90s, technology has broken the stranglehold of mass media. Big companies like Disney and Nintendo have mastered nostalgia to this effect. Your favorite hobbies, tendencies, music, etc, all get shaped by your youth. While not exclusively true to all teen life, the film was a touchstone for many people during the early 2000s. Now, Y2K trends are once again in style thanks to Gen Zjust as Millennials helped usher in the 90s nostalgia that has dominated fashion in recent years.
